About 2 years ago, I started Terminal Armament in a small 2 bedroom apartment, with the goal of making communication and electronic warfare equipment for the everyday citizen and civilian. As both the company and I have grown, I've come to realize that technology is a critical part of the multi-faceted fight for individual freedom, and that this fight is larger than just the tactical niche.

The original plan was to use TA as a sort of launching pad, from where I could get the experience I need to later start working on bigger goals and projects, while still doing something actually valuable: increasing the communication capabilities of the average citizen. But slowly I realized that the company and community that had formed around this idea was exactly what was needed to spread the idea and ideals of freedom to a much larger audience.

What is "Fosa"?

While Fosa is not an acronym, the name does stem from our foundational beliefs: the freedom of speech and armament. It's also a hint towards our belief in Free and Open-Source (FOS) technology. We think that this name will better suit us in pursuit of our mission statement.

What is our mission statement?

"To improve freedom, privacy, and independence through technology."

Technology is unfortunately often seen as an antithesis to this statement; a tool for corporations, governments, and other entities to strip away the freedom and privacy of the individual. But we believe that this doesn't have to be the case.

What's next?

We've got some big plans for 2023. While we won't spoil all of them here, our goal is to continue creating better hardware, software, and media, and solving hard engineering challenges. More radios, better maps, and in-depth education.

I'm a strong believer in building in public. While anonymity has its benefits, building, breaking, and moving forward under your own name provides more accountability between founders, companies, and customers. It also allows others with similar beliefs and ideas to see your work, learn from your mistakes, and help build the future together.

To be honest, for a long time I wasn't entirely sure about changing the name of a company I had spent 2 years building. I'm still not entirely certain about it now. Maybe people will find it confusing. Maybe this isn't the right time. Maybe grandma did have wheels. But the one thing I am certain of is our mission statement, and from the following and support we've gained over the years, it seems you are too. I'm super excited to take this next step, and to show you what we have planned.
